Hovaar Hovaarson Lura (also known as Hover Hoverson Lura) was the son of Haaver (Hover) Lura and Bertha Aslaksdatter. He immigrated to the United States from Norway in 1870.

FIVE DEATHS WITHIN A WEEK

Among This Number are Two Brothers. – Two Deaths on Monday

It has become our sad duty to chronicle the death of five of our people, all of whom have passed over the Great Divide within one week.

On Monday the tolling of the church bells spread the sad tidings that the Grim Reaper had entered four homes in this community and removed loved ones from each of them.

Poet nor artist has never been able to portray the grave in colors of brightness and beauty. Bryant in his “Hymn of Death” could not make the subject beautiful, and yet it is the gloom of the churchyard that reveals to us more clearly the beauty of life. It is the broken ties at the grave that prompts us to a full appreciation of the tenderness of the ties that are not yet broken

H. H. Lura, a prominent Howard township farmer, passed away at his home southwest of town on Monday. A stroke of apoplexy which he suffered some time ago was a contributory cause, and a cerebral hemorrhage being the immediate cause.

Mr. Lura was a native of Sandness, Stavanger, Norway, where he was born on January 14, 1851, being a son of Mr. and Mrs. Haaver Lura. He came to this country in 1870, coming directly to Story county, where several years later he located on a farm southwest of town and which has since been his home. On March 16, 1877, he was married to Miss Ellen Nelson in this city. To this union ten children were born, one of whom died early in life. He is mourned by his wife, his children – Eli, Inga, Bertram, Harriette, Nettie, Harvey, Cora, Victor and Edna – and three sisters – Bertha, Mrs. J. Evenson and Mrs. Malmin of McCallsburg.

Mr. Lura affiliated himself with Salem’s church soon after coming here, and of which organization he has been a devoted member. he was a man who had much influence for good in the community wherein he lived. he had been honored with the position of trustee of his church, and he also took an active part in shaping the affairs of this community.

The funeral services were conducted from the Salem’s church Thursday morning by his pastor, Rev. J.N. Sandven. A large concourse of relatives and friends came to pay their respects at the last sad rites of the deceased. Interment took place in the Roland Cemetery.
